Visa Types for Students
Choose the right visa for your study duration.
X1 Visa
For study periods over 180 days
Requirements:
- Must convert to Residence Permit within 30 days
- Valid for multiple entries during program
- For degree programs, foundation courses
X2 Visa
For study periods 180 days or less
Requirements:
- Cannot be converted to Residence Permit
- Valid for single or multiple entries
- For short-term programs, summer schools
Required Documents
- Valid passport (6+ months validity, 2 blank pages)
- Completed visa application form
- Passport-size photos (48mm x 33mm, white background)
- Admission Notice from university
- JW201 or JW202 Form
- Physical examination form (for X1 visa)
- Proof of accommodation in China
Application Process
Follow these steps to get your student visa.
Receive Admission Documents
After admission, you'll receive your Admission Notice and JW201/JW202 form from the university.
Prepare Your Documents
Gather all required documents including passport, photos, and admission materials.
Apply at Chinese Embassy
Submit your application at the Chinese embassy or consulate in your country.
Wait for Processing
Visa processing takes 4-10 business days (regular) or 2-3 days (rush).
Collect Your Visa
Pick up your passport with the visa and check all details are correct.
After Arrival in China
Important Steps:
1. 24-Hour Registration
Within 24 hours of arrival, you must register your address with the local police station. Your university international office can help with this.
2. Residence Permit (X1 Visa Only)
Apply for a residence permit at the local Exit-Entry Administration Bureau within 30 days of arrival. Required documents include passport, admission notice, physical examination certificate, and proof of accommodation.
